Members of the society spent the evening of Thursday 12 September 2024 in the company of the Wicklow County Archivist, Catherine Wright, learning about the many collections in her care. The County Archives are located in the relatively new County Library building in Wicklow town.
Catherine invited us to view some of the eclectic collections which have been catalogued, conserved and in many cases digitised. We also inspected the storage area. We were provided with a presentation about the background to many of the collections held at this repository; several collections are available to view online. We also learned about the various projects the County Archives has participated in.
Our thanks to Catherine for facilitating this very enjoyable and informative visit. It proved to be a revelation to all of us to to see how our county’s heritage is preserved with such care, in spite of the meagre extent of available resources.
