Our April 2026 lecture was held in Hollywood hall on Friday 26th. The speaker, Des Dalton spoke about Neil ‘Plunkett’ Boyle a young Donegal who was active during the Irish Civil War. Boyle was a member of the party of 112 men from various counties who escaped from the internment camp located in what was formerly Newbridge Army Barracks, now St. Conleth’s GAA grounds in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, during October 1922. He went on to head up a flying column of circa twenty men in the West Wicklow area and met his end in Knockadroose, above Hollywood in May 1923. Boyle is reputed to have been the last man killed in the Irish Civil War.
