West Wicklow Historical Society was pleased to organise and host a gathering of eleven local history groups from the areas of West Wicklow, Carlow and Kildare in Bigstone Community Hall, County Kildare on the morning of Saturday 18 May 2024.  This location was very appropriate, being only a short distance away from where the three counties of Kildare, Carlow and Wicklow meet.

The event brought almost forty people together from the various organisations. The morning was a worthwhile and sociable affair, spent in networking and sharing information.  Impressive displays of publications were on display and groups showcased and presented on their respective locales, activities, challenges and achievements.  Following a discussion, it was agreed that it had been a very worthwhile morning . It is hoped that this inaugural event will enable the groups to create an active networking platform through which we can in future support each other’s activities and share information.

The eleven groups represented at Bigstone on 18 May 2024 were Athy Historical Society; Blessington History Society; Castledermot History; Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society; Kildare Archaeological Society; Donard Imaal History Group; Rathdangan Local History Group; Rathvilly Heritage Interest Group; South Kildare Villages History and Heritage Group, Tullowphelim Historical Society and West Wicklow Historical Society.
