Our thanks to Norman Styles who acted as our guide for an evening stroll in the historic locale of Ballynure, Grangecon on Tuesday 17 June 2025. Our members enjoyed a leisurely walk around the grounds and lake of Ballynure Demesne, which looked resplendent in the bright glow of a warm summer’s evening. Many very fine old trees line the avenue approaching the beautiful and very well-preserved Ballynure House. This Georgian country house is a fine example of early 1800s architecture, with its distinctive roof overhang. We are grateful to its owner Clare Reid Scott for facilitating the event. We also visited the nearby Church of the Ascension built in 1814 which contains many noteworthy features including pointed arch stained glass windows, a Harrington gravestone dated 1632 and a pulpit carved by Agnes Bonham in 1893. The adjoining churchyard was also well worth a visit.
